BETTER THAN NINTENDO

As pastor Brent described this past Sunday, we tend to make Christmas all about the presents. We remember the best gifts we have received (for me, Nintendo in 1985), we look forward to surprising others with the gifts we carefully picked out for them, and a few of you might currently be worrying about the presents you ordered on Amazon but have not yet arrived! But all of our focus on the presents under our tree are nothing compared to all the gifts God has already given to us. All too often we take these good gifts for granted. We expect them so we fail to cherish them. So I encourage you to take a moment this Christmas season to reflect on all the good things God has given to you in this crazy 2020.

THE GIFT OF LISTENING

We often think that telling people about Jesus is all about our boldness to speak to people (sometimes “at” people). But as we look for opportunities to have spiritual conversations with family members this Christmas, let’s remember to begin by listening.

GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT

This Sunday, Pastor Brent discussed all the gifts God has given to us, and one of the gifts mentioned were the gifts of the Holy Spirit. In this message from 2015, Pastor Ryan teaches about what this spiritual gifts include – and yes, speaking in tongues is a part of them!

THE JOY OF A GREAT GIFT

May we treasure the gifts God has given to us even more than Ralphie treasures his Red Rider BB gun in this clip!

MESSAGE DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

We hope the message from each Sunday sticks with you beyond the Sunday morning worship service. Take a moment to consider the questions below, and even better, talk to somebody (who attends the church or doesn’t) about them.

  1. When you give a gift, think about how you like to see the recipient respond to the gift. Is that how you respond to all the gifts God has lavished on you?
  2. We often minimize the gifts God has given to us. We trivialize all the gifts other than salvation, or we act as though by being a good person, we earned his favor. In what ways might you inadvertently minimize the gifts of God?
  3. Take a moment to thank God for all the gifts he has given to you:
    • Gift of Salvation
    • Gift of Holy Spirit
    • Gift of Grace
    • Gift of Righteousness
    • Gift of Eternal Life
    • Spiritual Gifts
