Artist Statement: Have you ever felt hopeless that the light you shine in the dark world isn’t enough? We live in unprecedented times and we see so many people hurting in so many ways. The need is so huge, but here we are, carrying our flickering candle, holding it out for the world living in hopelessness and darkness.

What is the point? Does it even matter that we shine? In Matthew 5:15, Jesus tells us to let our good deeds shine out for all to see so that everyone will praise our Heavenly Father. We shine, not because we can change the whole world in a day but so we, on God’s behalf, can touch whoever He places in our path.

Knowing Jesus is the absolute best thing in our lives. Jesus changes everything, eternally! His light changes lives and brings hope like no other. So we shine, not our own light, but His light. We shine with hope and boldness because, in His eyes, it matters.

You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Matthew 5:14-16
