Liturgy of Prayer

Liturgy of Prayer

Spend 40 days in prayer and intimacy with Jesus. We encourage you to read the following prayers each morning, reflecting upon the faithfulness of Jesus as you pray.

Prayer of Approach

Oh God,

gather me now to be with you

as you are with me.

Soothe my tiredness;

quiet my fretfulness;

curb my aimlessness;

relieve my compulsiveness;

let me be easy for a moment.

Oh Lord,

release me from the fears and guilts

which grip me so tightly;

from the expectations and opinions

which I so tightly grip,

that I may be open to receiving what you give,

to risking something genuinely new,

to learning something

refreshingly different.

Oh God,

gather me to be with you

as you are with me.

Confession

Oh most merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you

in thought, word, and deed,

by what we have done,

and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you

with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We are truly sorry

and we humbly repent.

For the sake of your son Jesus Christ,

have mercy on us and forgive us;

that we may delight in your will,

and walk in your ways,

to the glory of your Name.

Pause for confession of anything that comes to mind.

Jesus Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God,

have mercy on me, a sinner.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from the evil one.

Listening

Oh Lord God, the day will wait.

I’m here with you.

Engage in breath prayer using the above phrase or anything else that comes to mind.

Closing Prayer

Oh Lord,

our heavenly Father,

almighty and everlasting God,

you have brought us safely to the beginning of this day:

Defend us by your mighty power,

that we may not fall into sin

nor run into any danger;

and that, guided by your Spirit,

we may do what is righteous in your sight;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Lord Jesus Christ,

you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross

that everyone might come within the reach

of your saving embrace:

So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love,

may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you;

for the honor of your Name.

Come, Holy Spirit,

renew us today

and fill us with your presence.

Give us humility of heart

and a discerning mind

to walk in step with you.

Correct where we need correction,

counsel where we need counsel,

empower us to meet the challenges of the day

and may the fruit of your presence

be present in all we say and do.

Fulfill in us the work begun by Jesus

and may our hearts be attuned to you with a posture that says,

“Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.”

Amen.
