Compassion

Compassion

Over and over in the New Testament we find Jesus moved with compassion, reaching out, healing, and loving those who were hurting, neglected, or in pain. As followers of Christ, compassion is one trait that should not be lacking in our lives. In 1 John 3:17, we read, “If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?” (NLT)

Recently, I saw a video that highlighted compassion in an unusual place. Dom Tiberi is a sports anchor for WBNS-TV in Ohio who has covered the Ohio State football team for 30 years. On September 17th, Dom tragically lost his 21-year old daughter in an automobile accident. When Dom returned to his job on September 28, the Ohio State football team did something remarkable. You can see for yourself below.

As we consider this act of compassion, we should ask ourselves, are we willing to go out of our way, to do something out of character or even uncomfortable, to show compassion to those around us? May the compassion of Christ motivate and inspire us to live as people of compassion.
