Mary Flynn, 84, volunteers in the Faith & Grace Garden on Wednesday evenings in July. She is part of group 6 – 10 from Ashworth Road Baptist Church who have been volunteering in the garden for the past five years. When Mary is not volunteering in the Faith & Grace Garden she is working in her own garden.. Fighting Against Hunger
At Ashworth Road, we have been partnering with organizations local, regionally, and around the world to help end hunger. This past October, one of our ministry partners, Manos Herman, had the opportunity to present at the Iowa Hunger Summit presented by the World Food Prize. Beza Threads – Helping Bring Redemption and Freedom to the Enslaved
This week, we opened our building to one of our favorite missions organizations, Beza Threads. Beza Threads needed space to sort and fold the 2,000 scarves they recently received from Ethiopia. Each scarf is hand-crafted by teenagers in their program and takes seven hours to create. Beza Threads partners with Hope for Children in Ethiopia (HCE), an on-the-ground (public) nonprofit dedicated to the rescue and transformation of enslaved children. Helping When it Hurts (or Itches)
A couple weeks ago I went out with a team of 8 people to cut down weeds at a woman’s house for our Summer of Love project. The owner told me she knew she had some poison ivy among the weeds but had sprayed it all with weed killer the previous week and killed it all. Our team worked for about an hour cutting down all sorts of weeds, small trees, and even large tree branches for this woman, doing…
